About Young Life: For Teachers
Young Life Grande Prairie is part of a world-wide organization for adolescents. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of teens, focusing on what matters to them — fun, adventure, friendship, and a sense of significance. In doing so, we earn the privilege of acting as mentors and talking to them about life, relationships, and leadership.
One way that Young Life Leaders care for teenagers is by volunteering in schools. Young Life Leaders are willing to serve junior and senior high schools in any capacity. Examples of how Leaders can help include:
helping with leadership classes
chaperoning field trips
supervising lunch rooms
assisting in organizing school events
If your school has a need, we would love to work with you to fill it.
Young Life is a non-denominational Christian organization which is supported by several local churches. However, there is no criteria for teenagers to be part of Young Life: teens of all backgrounds and traditions are involved. Young Life understands and respects all school rules. While volunteering in a school, Young Life leaders do not initiate conversations about religion or recruit students to be part of Young Life programs. Our role in schools is to be helpful to staff while acting as a positive presence on campus.
We take great care to ensure that Young Life staff and volunteers will be a positive influence on teenagers. All Young Life Leaders undergo new leader training and a mandatory screening process which includes an interview, reference check, and criminal background check. Leaders receive ongoing training and supervision from professional staff. These outstanding adults volunteer over 600 hours per year to make themselves available to schools and to act as friends and mentors to teenagers.
